Good after, thought I would introduce myself. My name's Stephen, from Widnes in Cheshire. I currently drive a 55 plate Citroen C4 diesel. I have had it for 7yrs (I think), it's one of the best car's I have owned. It gets whatever it needs from a local specialist Citroen garage in Widnes. I keep it well serviced because of the miles I do each day to get back and forth from work in Ellesmere port. The cars runs perfect, but after having it for this long I think it might be time to change. I am already looking at changing it for a DS4, possibly in 2-3 months if all goes well.

Sadly it will have to be used. Looking at something 4-5 years old, slightly newer if my budget will stretch to it. I am just waiting on the sale of a rented property I own to go through. I am also waiting for a compo payment sometime soon for an industrial injury I have. As soon as I some cars to choose from I will post some pics on here for people to comment.
Thanks.
Current car, Citroen C4 diesel.

Hi
I got my DS4 as a one owner, 3 year old, in mint condition with a substantial saving off list price and she’s a cracker !
Good luck finding something similar.

Welcome.

I purchased my used DS4 Crossback last October, 18 months old 8,000 miles for half list price new.

I just love it especially the power.

Must say I have mixed feelings about my DS4. Like Miggs I had a C4, a 2007 1.6hdi EGS which was the best car I have ever owned. A really excellent auto box with super quick gearchanges in sport mode. I didn't buy it new but got it with only 12 k miles at a very good price. I ran it until last July when I changed to a 3 year old DS4 Airdream Dstyle 1.6hdi EGS Eco so its the same engine and gearbox. My son has inherited the old car. Should be brilliant, 24k and 3 main dealer services, one only 400 miles before.
The car itself is very good indeed, the software for the gearbox is appalling. Citroen had it so right with my older car but not with this one. Very slow gear changes and changes at the wrong time so no power. Ok put it in manual mode instead and start an overtake and the car takes over again with a slow down change and a slow up change half way through the overtake so why does it say you have manual mode???
There have been a couple of mechanical issues, most notably with bottom ball joints on the front which were an mot failure level of wear and only 400 mile after allegedly been checked in service by a main Citroen dealer. I have never had this component fail so early in mileage ever in 45 years of driving. Replaced under warranty thankfully.
I have started looking at other cars to find a replacement but can't find anything I like at a price I can afford so it will stay for a while at least.
What I am saying is that it is a great car in manual form but not EGS ETG forms, maybe in the EAT version but I have never driven one of those.
Good luck with your search

Hi I had the ETG auto in my Cactus and although being overall very pleased with it certainly didn't like pulling away smartly say at a roundabout. It certainly couldn't cope with reversing up any sort of incline and also steep hills from stationary. I think this is due to the ETG being an electronically operated manual so therefore no clutch control. As I said in ordinary driving it was faultless.

The EAT being a proper torque converter auto is a completely different kettle of fish, faultless in every aspect.

Thanks for all the replies. One thing for sure is that I won't be touching any of the EGS or any other electronic manual gearboxes out there. I will be buying a normal manual car. Heard far too many horror stories of these gearboxes on the C4owners forum I also belong to.
