Cooling fan staying on

Hello I’d like to know if the cooling fan staying on after engine turned off is a common fault as it drains the battery , it did it last year and I replaced the battery, it’s started doing it again today , surely it can’t be the battery again , any help would be most grateful

How long does it stay on for?

I assume you have no engine management light on. Are you sure it's not the aircon fan, although that only stays on for a short time after the engine is turned off.

Particularly in hot weather the fan may well run for some time after engine shut down to cool the over heated water in the radiator and to deal with heat sink. Does the fan not stop at some point?

The fans should only run for a few minutes , at most and IF any fan is running for anything longer than 2-3 minutes, you have a problem which will need to get sorted. It could be your alternator is not sufficiently charging the battery or it could be issues with your cooling system not cooling adequately. Definitely need to get it sorted.
