Engine Fault Light Help

So I’ve had my DS4 Crossback (2018) for a year now, it was an ex demonstrator so no previous owners before us.

I was driving along a road yesterday and suddenly a warning light came up saying “engine fault needs repair”. The car is running fine as usual, no loss of power etc. I tried turning the car off and on, light was still there. I checked the oil levels and it seems to be ok. A service was due during lockdown and isn’t getting done until next weekend.

My car is still under warranty with DS, however they are wanting me to pay for diagnostic tests etc. I don’t mind paying it but for a car that is 2 years old and that I’ve only owned a year, I would think there shouldn’t be an engine fault. The garage we bought it from gave it a service before we bought it but I’m not sure if they changed any filters etc.

The engine warning light comes on and stays on permanently, no other light besides the service light is on with it.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Unfortunately I don't have much experience with "new car" warranty. But I don't see why you should be paying for a diagnostic test on a 2 year old car that's still under their warranty.

Is it ex demo from a DS dealer. Then you bought it? So the only previous service was them anyway?

It'll depend on the dealer and what's wrong with the car. I'd have thought there would be some warranty at that age, so a bit cheeky to ask to pay for a diagnostic.

Yes we bought it from a DS dealer and service was done with them, I spoke to them on the phone today and they are now saying that “if nothing comes up with the diagnostics” I will have to pay. I told them there isn’t a possibility nothing would come up, my engine management light is on but apparently it’s something they need to make you aware of. If no code shows up you have to pay.

That sounds fair, just make sure that the light is on when you get there.
