The elegant curved lines of the new Citroen DS4 will be coming soon to a showroom near you and the second model in the DS line has already won a few automotive beauty contests.
More than 60,000 online voters in 62 countries voted it “Most Beautiful Car of the Year” in a web poll, a media panel presented it with the “Most Beautiful Interior” prize at the 26th International Automobile Festival in January this year and at the prestigious 2011 Auto Bild Design Awards in Germany it won the “Most Beautiful Car” prize in the City & Compact car class.
There is plenty of decent kit with the DS4 along with some impressive specs to go with the good looks in this crafty five-door coupe.
Making life more pleasant on the inside is a DENON sound system, a cooler box, interior sounds and colours can be changed to suit your mood and extra additions include a front-seat massage function and sat-nav.
There’s a choice of five Euro 5-compliant engines, including two diesels, the HDi 110 and the HDi 160. The three petrol engines, the VTi 120, THP 155 and THP 200, were developed in conjunction with BMW to maximise power as well as efficiency.
Citroen’s micro-hybrid technology is available on an e-HDi version with a stop-start function improving city fuel economy by up to 15% and emissions are down to 114g/km.
The THP 200 has a top speed of 146mph, a 0-62mph time of 8.5 seconds, fuel economy is at 44mpg and CO2 emissions are 149g/km.
There’s a maximum 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating with 97% scored in the safety assist category. Standard safety features include ESP with traction control, ABS braking with electronic brakeforce distribution, six airbags and two Isofix mountings on the back seats.
In futher proof that she’s not just a pretty face, the DS4 has also won the Euro NCAP Advanced award for the eTouch Emergency & Assistance system.
The official on-sale date is July 4 and the order books are open already. The pricing starts at £18,150 for the VTi 120 manual DSign and at the top end of the line, the petrol THP 200 6-speed manual DSport is £23,650 and the HDi 160 6-speed manual DSport is £23,950. Citroen expects to sell a mix of 70% diesel and 30% petrol with the DS4.
