Does anyone have a bike rack fitted to their DS4? If so could I get a pic/spec of the one you have fitted.

Ideally I want a rear mounted one as I would want to have the 2 bikes on the rear and a roof box obviously on the top.

Cheers in advance.

Frank,You could think laterally (if you hav'nt already bought roof bars, roof box, and bike racks)
Get a swan neck towbar and a good second hand trailer from evilbay.
Advantages:
Total cost of trailer and swan neck tow bar about £300 - less than a top box and bars
Swan neck towbar costs about £150 to fit - and can be used to tow anything in future getting rid of rubbish, garden supplies, camping trips etc
Swan neck towbar can be removed to not spoil DS4 lines
You can get a towball bike carrier should you wish
Bikes and luggage can go on trailer and be left at site, so not spoil your cars look on holiday.

I did this and never looked back

I did consider the tow bar but I really don't want one on the car. I am after another car anyhoo so may well be going back to a Discovery which will cover all bases.

I can see the financial sense of a tow bar but I really can't see my DS4 with a trailer attached. Have you got any pics of yours with trailer attached?

I haven't fully committed to the roof bars yet but I am close.

You could try Halfords. I got a universal one a few years ago when I had a C4 it fitted ok .It has been fitted to a Mini and Fiesta since . I haven't fitted it to my Ds yet but can't see why it wont fit . It wasn't that expensive either about £40 . If you buy one from Halfords they will show you how to fit it so if they can't fit it you just don't buy it .

Went into Halfords initially. I don't know if it is different for the C4 but on the DS you have to clamp using the inside of the roof (inside the door well).

Citroen only want £180.01 for the bars, bargain!!!

I have found some on Fleabay for about £60-90.

It depends where you want to take this. Customise your trailer and it would look **** behind your DS4.I have seen some brilliant custom trailers behind Smarts etc and they do not look silly.

I was going to do half a mini for a trailer for my mini (classic). Never got round to it.

If I start going down the custom route it kind of negates the option of saving money.

My rack is about 5 years old so they may have changed the design butthe rack clips to the top of the hatch, the middle straps go through thehatch and the bottom straps fasten underthe bumperthen you pull the straps tight and the rack sits on the boot lid , the middle straps have adumbbellon the end and that pulls up against the hatch shut on the inside .

Most of the universal bike racks seem to be a problem due to the spoiler. They do have on that they reckon 'should' work as the C4 wasn't on the 'do not use' list. I pointed out that it didn't give the year of C4 seen as they have varied over the years.

I think I am going to plump for the bars. We were due to get them for a roof box later so it's not a huge problem.

Good efficient packing system - but is that really better than a trailer you can leave at destination, whilst you tour??? I'm not so sure......

Looks good. As long as I can get over my tow bar 'fear'. I just don't like the look/thought of a tow bar on the 4.

Thought it was worth resurrecting this thread - we've just had delivered our Kamei Delphin 380 roof box and Thule roof bars from the roof box company for our camping trips and bringing the wine back from France.

However, we are looking at a tow bar mounted carrier for bikes and therefore obviously need a tow bar - ideally, I'd have a demountable set-up with just electrics for a light bar too and was wondering if anyone has any good recommendations and idea of price, fitted, as it appears the bumper needs removal and the strengthening bar replacing. I've looked at Westfalia but not keen to remortgage in order to get one.

Also, I'm comfortable with a bypass relay rather than full CANBUS dedicated relay for substantially more - again, is there any experience?

This seems to be a decent site, but obviously this is supply only;

Just fitted a PFJones detachable last weekend, you will have to remove the bumper not to bad a job.
2x torx screws on each side of the arch liners
3x plastic clips, one on each side where the bumber meets the arch liner, one to the left nearest to the exhaust, just pop the middle out & remove
1x screw centre underneath rear lower skirt
Remove rear lights
Pop out the rear vents on each side push back the backing, 10mm spanner to loosen hand undo the nuts(don't drop them !!!) I did
I pulled back the arch liners there are 2x 10mm bolts on each side behind the arch liners. I jacked the car up put it on axle stands to allow a bit more room.
There are two clips where the bottom of the lights sit( top edge of the bumper) one on each side I used a putty knife to release the clips.
make sure you have protection down to sit the bumper on, just lift up & pull gently towards you & it should come free
There is two lifting brackets which need to be removed one on each side, then remove the rear aluminium crash bar as the tow bar will replace it.
Hope this helps, if you were a little closer I would of gladly helped
Paul

Ps....... a very good tow bar, recommended

Balders, that is fantastic help, thank you very much indeed - if you get the chance would you be able to take pictures of what it looks like fitted (not fitting, as in fitting the whole shooting match again!); the bar looks excellent value and I'm up for a bit of spannering! Did you do any electrics? My 4 year old thinks we should get a shed to pull...

Cheers as well Cally, I went for a package that had Thule bars with the Delphin box. However, post where you got them from as it may help others
