Assuming it's showing as 'open' still when you turn the ignition on it's likely to be that the microswitch (which most people think is the handle to open it) is probably stuck/ damaged - when opening the boot the little 'open' handle just needs a gentle twitch of the finger followed by opening the boot somewhere else on the lip, rather than pulling it all the way open on the microswitch

The boot does not display a warning on powering up....it simply can be opened at a y time after the car is locked and the person opening does not have an ignition key.I seem to remember a whirring sound at 6mph just like the doors...has this item got a fuse....no recommendations. In handbook. Also the plip has a boot symbol..this does nothing either.

The boot symbol on the key fob is to unlock the boot. Use the lock symbol to lock the boot.
Is your car keyless entry, is the key fob well away from the car when trying the boot lock.
