First time on the forum guys and was wondering if anyone had remapped/chipped their 2.0 diesels? Was wondering about the gains and any issues regarding clutch slip etc.

If you scroll through the threads you'll come across the pros and cons by a guy called rich.cath. he's says it makes a great difference to performance /economy etc.. I personally haven't had it done, but the guys who have are in favour!

Don,t intend to have this done myself. I'm interested that you say "for economy and performance" . I would have thougt you could tune for performance or tune for economy, but if you can retune to obtain both, why didn't Citroen or other manufacturers use that mapping spec from the start. However I'm no expert.Hope it goes well.

I had a plug and play eco box on my old astra 1.9 diesel and was impressed with the increase from 150bhp to 206bhp on the rolling road test but the economy was good before I got the box I would do 52 mpg on motorway journey but with box on I got 67mpg. So am trading me old box in for one for me ds4.

Could I ask what plug and play box you got for your ds4 same company as astra? some boxes are reprogrammable to be used on other cars. Could try on my wife's car too, only 110bhp.

I asked my friend about getting my DS4 remapped as he does them for a living and he said the gains on the DS4 isn't worth doing, mind you I only have the 1.6HDi, I didn't ask about the 2.0 version but the 1.6 gives pretty much no gains and apparently the 1.6 DS4 isn't a good car to try and tweak as they're known to have issues after being mapped

See there is comment about another thread but I can't find that one so will add my comments here.

My A2 1.4TDI was remapped 7 years ago on a rolling road - I watched the specialist put a stock remap on then work through the parameters to improve combustion whilst at the same time controlling smoke etc. - stock my car is supposed to have 75bhp and 144 lb/ft of torque but it actually had 79bhp and 166lb/ft - this was increased to 97bhp and 203 lb/ft. In 7 years (next week) and about 70,000 miles I've had no ill effects not has anyone else I know who has a remapped A2*

Car manufacturers have to develop cars that can tow a 1500kg caravan on 40C heat up the side of a Saharan mountain on sub-standard fuel - a little extra punch for 5 seconds isn't going to tax it; I found my economy didn't change at all as I used the power but also got the benefit of being able to travel in a higher gear more of the time 90% of the time; only occasionally to I give it full beans so the occasions I'm pushing the engine are rare.

I find the performance of the DS4 just peachy so there's no need for me, but as somebody who has lived with a remapped car for nearly 7 years I can't see the downsides. I'd change the oil more frequently (essentially comply by the arduous conditions service spec, my A2 is on fixed services rather than long life)

*A2 1.4TDI 90bhp models have a DMF; these wear quicker as a rule of thumb than none-mapped cars due to the 'gob' of torque; my '75' has a single mass flywheel.

hi guys just came back onto site.
See a lot of talk about this and several different views....

Yes you can chip/re-map DS4 takes the 1.6HDI up to about 135bhp (+20bhp) 280nm torque, takes the 2.0HDI to 200bhp (+40bhp near as damn it) and 410nm torque (+60nm). In the 2.0HDI these are 25% and 20% respectively not bad for £300 if you ask me.

The key here is the torque, you will never beat a 217bhp Golf GTI in a drag race, but some big sport cars do not produce 400+nm and therefore your ingear acceleration, need to change gear is less and that makes a better cruiser.

Also you can get performance and fuel economy simply because you have more power you change gear less, use less revs so economy improves - if you drive like a banshee nothing will improve fuel efficiency!!

You can use a chip system that overrides your ECU, and you pay for what you get. The cheaper ones around £60-£100 jus con engine into pushing in more fuel, and are not in tune with engine management system. The circa £300 chips are bespoke set-ups for your car and over ride ECU settings, but are easy to unplug and go back to normal. The danger is some will allow tuning car beyond safe paramenters which will make engine fail earlier.
The other option is a re-map (superchips) they reprogram original Citroen ECU (after backing up old spec) and therefore from insurance point of view no extra bits or tampering. Also because this re-map is on original ECU it compliments other ECU programming (Emyway etc) and is more in tune with car (works within cars maximum parameters). I have used both and prefare the re-map if possible.

My DS4 Sport 2.0HDI was chipped 2 years ago now got it to 197bhp 406nm, could have gone higher but strain on engine not worth it. Car can handle this easily, some slight more wheel spin (due to huge torque), but manageable - and allows you to burn of sill Seat Cupras and Golf GTIs especially in mid range - lovely
