Hi, I hope you can help.

I have a 62 reg DS4 Automatic (semi) and it drives perfectly although when I start the car it comes up with the error - Gearbox Fault - Repair needed.

On the odd occasion it wont start with this error but normally if this happens I wait 5 minutes and then starts perfectly.

I suspect it is a sensor problem and because it drives beautifully I am reluctant to pay £50+ to plug a computer in to tell me a lie as to what is wrong.

Have any of you had this problem and if so do you know if there is a fix I can do to stop this from happening - my biggest worry is if I leave it and it becomes a bigger problem.

The problem is, "XXX Fault - Repair needed" is a generic error message, you need to plug something in to even remotely have an idea on what's going on.


Not sure if gearbox problems issue a normal fault code. If they do you could perhaps get get a cheap OBD2 reader and use that.
