Bought a 1.6 hdi dstyle 6 speed semi auto in grey on a 12 plate yesterday. Previously a C4 owner and c4 club member, so at least I can see the value inherent in the brand once initial depreciation done. Nice load of kit but jerky gear change. They often update software on these boxes, any way to tell if the latest version is on the vehicle?

I've had an ex demonstrator 1.6 dstyle semi auto 2011 plate for over 4 years. Complained several times under warranty about the jerky gearchange (esp at lower speeds), latest software uploaded by garage (last checked June 2015), but no significant difference. So don't keep your fingers crossed for improving the situation - it appears it's inherently never going to be as smooth as a full auto with torque converter.

Pity - it spoils what is otherwise a great car.

We test drove a 64 plate, semi asking with a full auto before buying our manual and we also found what you described and you would have thought any updates would have been done by then, it was our least favourite box. We are both used to manuals, not autos though and are biased, we had no intention of buying a auto based box but thought we would try them along with the different specs and engines to ensure we got the best one for us.

It was worth doing though as we got the 160 diesel rather than the 200THP that we expected to prefer. We were impressed by the full Auto box but still preferred the manual as we rarely see traffic in this part of the world.
