Looking to fit a tow bar to my DS4 and wow have I uncovered a mine field.

Can get one fitted at the dealer for .... £1035... that includes reprogramming the ECU. way too much!!

Local trusted Indespension outlet quoted £570 but unable to reprogram... said to go to main dealer. Contacted local main dealer who said they won't do it unless they fit. Rock and hard place!!!

anyone on here give any advice or know who would and could?

Same problem I came across - Citroen quoted me £1036 (the bar alone was £330), you can use the bypass relay which means some of the functionality won't work around operating systems or find somebody with Lexia to configure the genuine electrics.

To be honest, it's a mine field but I'd personally go for a bypass relay.

You'd be best off going to a towbar specialist rather then citroen. They will charge you their standard rate of around £100/Hr and farm in out anyway in most cases.

Quick check on eBay shows you can get all the parts needed from between £250 to £400 and installation won't be more then a day tops.

I know some fantastic hotels in the south of France, in avignon. You can use all the money saved on a towbar in a five star hotel, drive your ds4 down there and sleep in a real bed and use a real bathroom, Sell your caravan, buy a two seater roadster. Sounds like a no brainer to me!

You can't ride a hotel though, can you?

We are looking to put bikes on the back of the car - we have a roof box for camping trips and also taking to France (it goes out empty so we can come back with loads of booze) but as our son will soon by cycling without stabilisers, it's all about the bike storage - much prefer them on the back than the roof the rest of the time, too.

I'm not a fan of hotels generally, we go the Yelloh Village/ A Fresco static route in France.

Tried towbar express, they quoted £394 with single electrics and detachable towbar - did some measuring-up and a single roof-bar mounted cycle carrier will fit alongside the roof box so I'm going to get three and accept we can only take FB Juniors bike if we are using the roof box which is only really an issue for camping and trips to France as it means we can bring loads of wine back; we would hire for the occasional day!

Used local specialist, fitted detachable swan neck bar, great, nothing to be seen when off the car. He charged £350 for the work brilliant. No re-programming done just used a relay & that was 6 months ago not had any problems yet.

Ok, so far so good, Got in touch with local tow bar supplier, 'Britannia towbars' in Swansea. Gave me a massive quote something like £470. Told me the brand to get was 'Tow Trust' and that if I got it and fitted myself he would do the electrics for £35. Tow bar has arrived - Tow Trust TP431BSN swan neck, wait for it..........ebay (discount towing supplies) .......£121.66 + £25 for relay.

Looks easy enough to fit bar itself, no need to take bumper off, just need to loosen exhaust, lower and then fix bolts........

Let you know how I get on?
